Italian carabinieri announced that they had dismantled a jihadist propaganda cell led by a woman of Pakistani origin. The organization includes five young foreigners, four of whom are still residing in Italy, reported "Agence France-Presse", quoted by BTA.
The four suspects are accused of having created a terrorist association inspired by Salafism. Their main objective is to promote and strengthen terrorist groups such as "Al Qaeda" and "Islamic State" (IS), a statement from the prosecutor's office said.
The investigation, led by the Bologna prosecutor's office, has led to the issuance of five arrest warrants. Four of them have already been executed, while the fifth suspect has left Italy and is believed to have gone to a country in the Horn of Africa.
The case began in September 2023, after authorities began monitoring jihadist propaganda websites. These platforms, according to information, play an important role in attracting second-generation young people with a migrant background and young Italians seeking identity.
The investigation has revealed a serious change in the suspects' activities. Their initial efforts, focused mainly on propaganda, have evolved, with their field of action expanding to new, even more worrying topics, the authorities said in a statement.
