Pakistan has carried out airstrikes on Taliban hideouts in neighboring Afghanistan, the Associated Press reported, quoted by BTA, citing representatives of the Pakistani security forces.
They reported a destroyed training base and several killed extremists.
The targets of the airstrikes yesterday were Pakistani Taliban targets in a mountainous area in the eastern Afghan province of Paktika, bordering Pakistan.
The Pakistani army has not yet commented on the issue.
This is the second attack of its kind since March this year. The Pakistani military said at the time that it had carried out the airstrikes based on intelligence, the AP recalls.
The Pakistani Taliban, emboldened by the seizure of power in Afghanistan by the local branch of the Islamist movement, have increased their attacks on soldiers and police since November 2022, when they unilaterally called off ceasefire talks after months of talks in the Afghan capital, Kabul, collapsed, the AP notes.
