Ukrainian Energy Minister German Galushchenko wrote on the social network "Facebook" today that Russia is "massively attacking the country's energy sector", Reuters reported, BTA reported.
Shortly after him, Ukraine's largest private electricity supplier - DTEK, announced that this morning Russian forces had struck its power plants, causing serious damage.
"This is the 13th large-scale attack on Ukraine's energy sector and the 10th on the company's energy facilities," DTEK wrote on the "Telegram" application. Galushchenko explained that the company that runs the power grid had limited electricity supply to reduce damage.
Russia has stepped up attacks on Ukrainian energy infrastructure in the spring, damaging almost half of the power grid, leaving the entire country without electricity for long periods, the world agency notes.
Meanwhile, at least three people were injured in Kharkiv in a Russian missile attack on Tuesday morning, Reuters reported, citing the mayor of Ukraine's second-largest city, Igor Terekhov. Ukrainian forces announced that Kharkiv had been attacked with a ballistic missile. The head of the local regional military administration, Oleg Sinegubov, explained on the Telegram app that "damage was inflicted on civilian infrastructure" and that it was "not residential."
