At least three dead in shooting of journalists in Haiti - 1

In Port-au-Prince, the capital of Haiti, gunmen opened fire on journalists gathered for a press conference in the city center, killing at least three people. Among the victims were two journalists and a police officer, and several others were injured.

Causes of the event

The journalists were invited to an event organized by Haiti's new health minister, Dickenson Lorte Bléma. The event was held at the country's largest public hospital, which is also located in downtown Port-au-Prince. The hospital and the surrounding area have long been the scene of violence and gunfire from gangs that have taken control of the capital.

Violence in Haiti

The shooting underscores the escalating violence in Haiti, where gangs regularly clash with police and people on the streets. The University of Haiti Health Hospital, which would normally provide medical services to local residents, has been closed due to the frequent violent clashes.

The government's response

Leslie Voltaire, head of Haiti's transitional presidential council, has strongly condemned the incident, calling such incidents "absolutely unacceptable."
