The damage after the shipwreck of two tankers in the Kerch Strait area will continue to increase mainly due to the undercurrent, Vyacheslav Festisov, the first deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee on Ecology, Natural Resources and Environmental Protection, said at a press conference at TASS, quoted by TASS.
“From our point of view, (the damage) will increase. We know that there is an undercurrent there, which can bring many surprises“, said Fetisov.
It is necessary to continue monitoring and take into account practical experience in eliminating accidents, he added.
Two tankers suffered a shipwreck on December 15. The tankers were carrying about 9,200 metric tons of fuel oil. The incident resulted in a spill of petroleum products in the Black Sea.
