Low voter turnout in first round of presidential election in Croatia - 1

The voter turnout in the first round of the presidential elections in Croatia began with a disappointing result of only 14 percent by 11:30 local time, BTA reports.

According to data from the State Election Commission, this indicator remains far from expectations for an increase in turnout during the day.

Among the candidates who have already voted are Miro Bul from the “Bridge“ party, independent Tomislav Jonić, Branka Lozo from the “Home and National Assembly“ party, current President Zoran Milanović, supported by the Social Democratic Party, as well as Dragan Primorac, supported by the Croatian Democratic Union, and Niko Tokić Kartelo, an independent candidate.

The voting is taking place not only in Croatia, but also outside the country, with polling stations located in different countries, including Australia, Chicago and Los Angeles, as well as in Bosnia and Herzegovina, where 42 polling stations are located, as well as in Germany with 17 polling stations.

In order to ensure the transparency of the election process, over 13,400 observers will monitor the voting process, which is almost half the number of observers in 2019, when their number reached an impressive 24,270.

Election day will last until 19:00 local time, and the first preliminary results are expected to be published by the State Election Commission at 20:00 on December 29.
