Russia and Ukraine today carried out a prisoner exchange, with each side freeing 150 prisoners of war, the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement, quoted by Reuters, BTA reports.
The Russian prisoners were released on the territory of Belarus and will be transferred to Russia. The statement added that the United Arab Emirates acted as a mediator in the exchange.
"Currently, all Russian prisoners of war are on the territory of Belarus, where they are provided with the necessary psychological and medical assistance, and are also given the opportunity to contact their relatives. "All released prisoners of war will be transferred to the Russian Federation for treatment and rehabilitation in medical facilities of the Russian Ministry of Defense," the Russian ministry said.
