The small town of Lgov in the Russian border region of Kursk has been subjected to a second missile strike by the Ukrainian army in as many days, authorities said, quoted by DPA and Reuters, BTA reported.
Military sources on the Russian side claim that four of five missiles from US HIMARS multiple launch rocket systems were intercepted.
The regional administration also denied any damage. However, video footage from the town shows fires, DPA notes. According to unofficial Ukrainian data, Lgov serves as a deployment area for Russian troops. The previous strike was carried out on December 25.
Governor Alexander Khinshtein reported on Telegram that one person was injured and a two-story residential building was damaged, Reuters notes.
Lgov is located about 30 km north of Ukrainian-controlled territory in Kursk region. Similarly, in recent days, the city of Rylsk has been hit with long-range rocket artillery to slow down a Russian counteroffensive.
Ukraine has been resisting a full-scale Russian invasion for nearly three years.
