A half-staffed American flag will greet the newly elected President Donald Trump when he takes office in the White House on January 20.
The Biden administration has no intention of reversing its decision to lower the American flag on government buildings to half-staff in memory of former US President Jimmy Carter, said White House press secretary Karin Jean-Pierre.
During a regular briefing, reporters asked her if there was a chance that President Joe Biden would change his mind. “No”, the White House spokeswoman answered curtly.
Trump had previously criticized Biden's decision to lower flags on government buildings for 30 days. The next head of the US administration did not rule out that this decision could be reconsidered.
"Nobody wants to see this and no American can be happy about it. We will see how it all turns out in the end", Trump wrote on his Truth Social page.
„The Democrats are intoxicated that our beautiful American flag can be lowered to half-staff during my inauguration. They think it's great and they are so happy about it because they don't really love our country and only care about themselves, Trump said.
Earlier, Biden ordered flags on government buildings at home and abroad to be lowered to half-staff for 30 days in memory of Carter, who died on December 30 at the age of 101.
