A union of parents of Israeli soldiers today called on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, whom they accuse of unnecessarily prolonging the war in the Gaza Strip, to end it in order to save the lives of their children, reported Agence France-Presse, quoted by BTA.
The group includes more than 800 parents of soldiers, serving or reservists, who are in combat units in Gaza. Some of the soldiers have not returned to Israel since October 7, 2023.
For several months, Benjamin Netanyahu has been accused by his critics of unnecessarily prolonging the war against the "Hamas" group for political reasons.
The group also made this accusation in a letter to the prime minister. In it, they reproach Netanyahu for waging a war without setting a horizon for its conclusion, which is unprecedented in Israeli history. "And this is being done solely for the sake of your personal political survival," the letter says.
"We accuse you of abandoning the hostages and the soldiers. We appeal to you: stop the war," the text continues.
The soldiers' relatives believe that "everyone knows, including the soldiers, that the war is being prolonged aimlessly and that the hostages will only be returned within the framework of an agreement" currently being negotiated in Qatar, one of the three mediating countries, along with the United States and Egypt.
"The Israeli army has no other reason to remain in Gaza than to fulfill the messianic desires (of some members of the far right) to settle there," the group says.
"We cannot allow you to continue sacrificing our children like cannon fodder," the soldiers' parents say.
