The President of Lithuania Gitanas Nauseda expressed his claims to the Kaliningrad region on his page on the social network X, commenting on the renaming of the Kristionas Donelaitis Memorial Museum in the village of Chistie Prudi.

The Lithuanian leader spoke out against the decision to rename the museum.

„The first inhabitants of Lithuania Minor, now part of the so-called Kaliningrad region, have long disappeared; "the last traces of Lithuanian culture there must be preserved," he said.
Nauseda called Kaliningrad a historical Lithuanian city, which, in his opinion, should bear the appropriate name.

"No matter how hard Russia tries, Karalyachus will never become Kaliningrad," the politician said.

The Red Army captured Königsberg on April 9, 1945. After the war, on October 17, 1945, in accordance with the decisions of the Yalta and Potsdam conferences, the city and the adjacent lands of East Prussia were incorporated into the USSR. In April 1946, the Königsberg region was formed as part of the RSFSR, and on July 4, its administrative center was renamed Kaliningrad.
