Cyclone „Dikeledi“, which hit the northern part of Madagascar, has caused at least three deaths and affected more than 900 people, mainly in the Voemar region, known for its vanilla production, BTA reports.

According to the National Disaster Risk Management Service, the cyclone slowed down after making landfall late yesterday, but continues to cause serious damage on the island.

The torrential rains and strong winds of Cyclone „Dikeledi“ were very destructive, destroying fragile structures in the affected area. According to General Elak Olivier, three deaths have been officially confirmed so far.

The areas hardest hit by the disaster are struggling to cope with major damage, with at least 920 people suffering from power outages, flooding and collapsed buildings.

Meanwhile, the French archipelago of Mayotte was also hit by Cyclone “Diquelédi“. Local authorities have warned that the region will be hit by a cyclone front, bringing new dangers to the local population, just a month after Cyclone Shido passed.

A red weather warning has been issued, with Mayotte residents urged to seek shelter in stable structures or emergency shelters.

The prefecture has also ordered food and water supplies for possible extended isolation. In addition, vehicle movement is prohibited due to the risk of flooding and fallen trees and structures.

The cyclone is currently 120 km south of Mayotte and is moving at 30 km/h in a west-southwesterly direction. For now, the weather agency “Météo France“ does not foresee a significant weakening of the strength of the cyclone front.
