Sergey Lavrov, Russia's Foreign Minister, compared US involvement in the conflict in Ukraine to the Soviet fight against Nazism during World War II, Sky News reports, quoted by Focus.
When asked about the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II, Lavrov said that there are "parallels" between the then and the present period. He referred to US President Joe Biden's recent foreign policy address, in which he expressed pride in the strengthening of NATO during his administration.
“50 countries were brought in to help Ukraine, as he said, but in reality the fight is against Russia“, Lavrov commented. He pointed out that there were elements of superiority, as well as a desire to pursue something that today is called Bonapartism, but which during Hitler's time was called fascism and Nazism.
Lavrov added that Russia and China play a role as stabilizing factors in the international community, emphasizing that NATO nevertheless aims to provoke “confrontation” and "is always ready to drive a wedge between these two powers".
"We see American schemes everywhere," the Russian foreign minister also said.
