European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has not yet received an invitation to participate in the inauguration ceremony of US President-elect Donald Trump. This was announced by a Commission spokesperson during a press conference, answering journalistic questions, quoted by BTA.
The spokesperson noted that Von der Leyen was also not invited to the ceremony that marked the beginning of Joe Biden's presidential term.
“We have no information that any European Commission president has attended such events in the past,“ he added.
Furthermore, it was reported that the Commission is seeking opportunities for contacts with the new administration in Washington as soon as possible.
“There is no specified date, time or other specific form of communication yet,“ the spokesman said.
