Slovakian opposition prepares no-confidence vote against Robert Fico's government - 1

Slovak pro-Western opposition parties plan to initiate a no-confidence vote against Robert Fico's government, TASR news agency reported, quoted by Focus.

At a press conference on January 14, MPs from "Progressive Slovakia", "Freedom and Solidarity", "Christian Democrats, Slovakia", "For the People" and "Christian Union" announced that they would take action against the ruling coalition in the coming days.

The opposition accuses Prime Minister Fico of failing to address key challenges and questions Slovakia's pro-Western orientation.

„Robert Fico left the country instead of facing the problems that affect the people. He travels to Moscow, meets with dictators and neglects his duties at home," said the leader of "Progressive Slovakia" Michal Šimečka, quoted by Aktuality.

According to Šimečka, the reasons for the initiated vote of no confidence are not limited to "Fico's scandalous visit to Moscow", but are rooted in long-standing dissatisfaction. "During the 14 years in power, Robert Fico has caused serious damage to our country - so much that it can hardly be described within ten hours", he added.

The opposition also criticized the ruling party for its absence from an extraordinary parliamentary session convened to confirm Slovakia's foreign policy course. The lack of a quorum prevented the session from taking place.

Meanwhile, protests against the prime minister's policies took place in various Slovak cities. Participants expressed dissatisfaction with the government's actions and demanded change.
