„The war in Ukraine increases the risk of the United States being drawn into a conflict with a nuclear power.“ This was stated by John Ratcliffe, nominated for CIA Director by President-elect Donald Trump, during a Senate hearing, Voice of America reported, quoted by Focus.
„The Russian-Ukrainian war continues, spreading destruction and increasing the risk of the United States being drawn into a conflict with a nuclear power“, Ratcliff emphasized.
He described today as „perhaps the most challenging day in the history of the United States in terms of national security“. Among the biggest threats, the intelligence chief nominee cited the Chinese Communist Party's drive for global economic, military and technological dominance, as well as the growing influence of transnational criminal organizations.
Ratcliffe also warned about Iran: “Tehran is closer to a nuclear breakthrough than ever before.“
The CIA director nominee also emphasized that “increased coordination among America's rivals and adversaries increases their combined threat“. In addition, numerous terrorist groups and non-state actors, some of which have crossed the southern border of the United States, continue to pose a constant threat to national security.
