Lukashenko pardons over 20 people convicted of extremism - 1

The President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko has pardoned 23 people who committed extremist crimes. This was reported by the press service of the Belarusian leader.

“This decision was made based on the principles of humanism. Those pardoned are given a chance to return to normal life“, the statement said.

All have written applications for pardon, admitted their guilt and repented. 3 women and 20 men were pardoned, of whom 13 people are over 50, 14 with chronic diseases, 12 with children.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs “will ensure control over their lawful behavior“.

This is not the first such decision by the head of state. Lukashenko noted that the pardons of persons convicted for participating in protests in Belarus in 2020 were dictated not by the desire to improve relations with the West, but by humanitarian considerations.
