US President-elect Donald Trump stopped by Blair House, the White House guest residence, before his inauguration on Monday, journalists reported.
Trump, along with his wife Melania and youngest son Barron, flew from Florida on Saturday on a special Boeing 757-200 government plane, which the US vice president sometimes uses for trips, and landed at Dulles International Airport near Washington, and then went to the Trump Sterling Golf Club in Virginia.
There, Trump organized a reception for 500 guests, including his nominees for positions in the Pentagon and the Department of Homeland Security, Pete Hegseth and Christy Noem. In the evening, Trump, his wife and guests watched fireworks. The Republican then headed to Blair House.
On Sunday, the president-elect will attend a wreath-laying ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery outside Washington, D.C., and then hold a rally at the Capital One Arena downtown.
Blair House is the residence of the president and the U.S. government, located on Pennsylvania Avenue across from the White House. Since 1942, it has hosted heads of state and government visiting the United States from abroad, as well as members of their delegations. In addition, according to tradition, the president-elect settles there for a few days before taking office and entering the White House.
Trump's inauguration will take place at noon on January 20. Due to the expected minus 12 degrees Celsius in Washington, Trump and Vance will be sworn in not in front of the Capitol building, as previously planned, but for the first time in 40 years - in the central hall called the Rotunda, which can hardly accommodate more than 1,000 people.
Increased security measures have been taken in Washington before the ceremony. Much of the city center near the White House and Congress is closed to traffic. Capitol Hill has been cordoned off and off-limits to the general public for several days.
