A total of 79 people died in the fire at the Kartalkaya ski resort in Northwestern Turkey. This was announced today by the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office in Bolu, CNN-Turk television reports.
Meanwhile, the Turkish Ministry of Health announced that 39 of the 51 victims of the fire have been discharged from hospitals.
Today is a day of mourning in Turkey due to the tragedy in the ski resort located in the northwestern Bolu district, BTA adds, quoted by BNR.
Two more people were detained in connection with the fire today - the deputy mayor of the city of Bolu, as well as the deputy head of the local fire department.
A total of 11 people, including the owner of the "Grand Kartal" hotel, have been arrested so far, Turkish Justice Minister Yılmaz Tunç wrote on his account on the "Ex" social network. The investigation into the fire is ongoing, he added.
Some of those who died in the tragedy, including many children, were buried today.
"Our hearts and souls ache", said Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan at the funeral of the family of Turkish Airlines employee Zehra Gultekin. Eight people were buried, all relatives.
The president could not hold back his tears, as seen in footage from state-run TRT Haber television.
