An agreement to resolve the conflict in Ukraine was not reached because Volodymyr Zelensky wanted to fight, US President Donald Trump said in an interview with Fox News.
„We could have made a deal...Zelensky decided he wanted to fight“, he said, commenting on the possibilities of resolving the Ukrainian conflict.
The US president added that Zelensky is not an angel and should not have allowed the Russian invasion of Ukraine to begin.
"Zelensky wants to settle this now. Enough is enough. He is not an angel, he should not have let this war start," Trump said.
Trump called for "immediate" end the conflict, adding that Ukraine had been "devastated".
Earlier on Thursday, Trump said he wanted to meet with Vladimir Putin "immediately" and was receiving "signals" that the Russian leader wanted to do the same. At the same time, he made it clear that Volodymyr Zelensky had informed him of his "readiness to make a deal" on the settlement of the Ukrainian conflict.
Meanwhile, it became clear that the US president wants to contact North Korean leader Kim Jong-un during his new term, Reuters reported.
"I will contact", he confirmed. At the same time, the American leader did not specify when exactly and on whose initiative the negotiations could be held.
Former US National Security Advisor John Bolton had previously admitted the possibility of negotiations between Trump and Kim Jong-un.
