The US deported more than 4,000 migrants to Mexico in the past week, including those of non-Mexican origin, President Claudia Sheinbaum announced, quoted by Reuters, writes BTA.
She specified that most of the returned persons were Mexican citizens, and the period for which she presented the information specifically covers the days from the inauguration of the new US leader Donald Trump on January 20 to January 26.
Sheinbaum had previously said that her country would not agree to the "Return to Mexico" program (Return to Mexico) of the new Republican government in Washington.
Earlier, the White House declared a political victory in the standoff with another Latin American country, Colombia, after Bogota finally agreed to start accepting deportation flights from the United States. Previously, Trump threatened to impose heavy tariffs and other sanctions on the economy of the South American country and long-time regional partner of Washington if it did not agree to take back migrants, the Associated Press notes.
