A Russian delegation arrived on a visit to Damascus, TASS reported, BTA reported.
It includes Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov, as well as the Russian President's special representative for Syria, Alexander Lavrentiev.
This is the first visit by Russian officials to Damascus since Bashar Assad stepped down from the presidency and left Syria last month.
Russia, which has provided asylum to Assad, hopes to retain its two bases in Syria - a naval base in Tartus and the "Hmeimim" air base near the port city of Latakia, Reuters notes.
