On board the plane that crashed in the US were the 1994 world figure skating champions Evgenia Shishkova and Vadim Naumov, RIA Novosti reports, citing a source quoted by Focus.
Shishkova and Naumov, who are husband and wife, won the gold medal in the pairs event at the 1994 World Championships. In addition, the couple has silver from the 1995 championship and bronze from 1993. Their rich sports career also includes four bronze medals from the European Championships (1991-1993, 1995), as well as silver in 1994.
The disaster occurred after a plane with 60 passengers collided with a military helicopter and fell into the Potomac River near Washington. So far, the bodies of 18 people have been recovered.
After the end of their competitive careers, Shishkova and Naumov became coaches in the United States, where they help young talents in figure skating.
