US President Donald Trump declined to comment on his possible contacts with the leaders of the Russian Federation and China, Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping. He nevertheless told reporters that "things are going well on both fronts".

Trump was asked when he last contacted Putin and whether Xi Jinping had responded to the US leader's request for help in resolving the crisis on the US border. "I won't comment on those issues, but we're doing very well on both of them," Trump said.

Trump previously said he had not spoken to the Russian leader about the plane crash in Washington, but hinted that they had had contact on another issue.

Russian President Vladimir Putin's press secretary Dmitry Peskov confirmed that there had been no contact between Putin and Trump yet.

The US government is planning to impose import duties on goods from China "because of the supply of fentanyl", the amount of the duties is still being specified, Trump said.

„They're sending fentanyl into our country. It's killing hundreds of thousands of people. So China will end up paying the tariffs for that,” he said.

Trump said that Washington should not deal with Syria’s problems, and the US administration will decide on the possibility of withdrawing US troops from the Arab republic.

He commented on publications in the Israeli media that the Jewish state is worried about the possibility of US troops withdrawing from Syria.

„We are not interfering in the situation in Syria. This is their mess. They have enough problems there. They don’t need us to interfere“, Trump added.

Earlier, Kan reported that senior US officials had made it clear to Israeli representatives that Trump was interested in withdrawing US soldiers remaining on Syrian territory. In December 2024 The Pentagon said there are about 2,000 American troops in Syria.
