The new drone aircraft carrier "Shahid Bahman Baqeri" has officially entered service with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) naval forces in the Persian Gulf, the Iranian news agency IRNA reported, quoted by BTA.
The warship was presented during an official ceremony in the southern port city of Bandar Abbas. "Shahid Bahman Baqeri" has the ability to deploy several squadrons of unmanned aerial vehicles, launch and receive them, as well as control various reconnaissance and strike drones.
During the event, the Chief of General Staff of the Iranian Army, Mohammad Bagheri, emphasized that while before the Islamic Revolution (1978-1979) over 90% of Iranian military equipment was imported, today more than 90% of it is locally produced.
The Commander of the IRGC Naval Forces, Rear Admiral Alireza Tangsiri, revealed details about the unique capabilities of the "Shahid Baheri". In addition to its military functions, the ship is equipped with specialized medical facilities, including an operating room, a cardiovascular department, radiology and dentistry rooms. It also has sports facilities such as a sports hall and a gym.
Rear Admiral Tangsiri emphasized that the acceptance of "Shahid Baheri" into service is a strategic step towards strengthening Iran's defense and deterrence capabilities in distant waters, as well as ensuring the national interests of the Islamic Republic.
