Sikorski: Trump must convince Putin to abandon absurd demands on Ukraine - 1

Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski expressed hope that US President Donald Trump will succeed during his conversation with Vladimir Putin in getting the Russian leader to abandon "some absurd demands" regarding Ukraine, reports "Ukrainska Pravda", reports Focus.

Sikorski recalled that initially the US president had "promised to resolve this conflict within 24 hours".

"We knew it wouldn't be that easy", he added.

The Polish minister expressed his wish for Trump's success in the negotiations with the Russian leader and hoped that the US president would prove to be as good a negotiator as he is supposed to be.

Sikorski also stressed that he hoped Trump would be able to convince Putin to abandon some ridiculous demands, such as the desire for control over all of Ukraine, demilitarization of the country and plans to conquer additional Ukrainian territories in the future.

"We will evaluate the success of the negotiations with Trump based on the quality of the peace achieved," the Polish foreign minister added.

He also noted that the peace talks would be a test for the Russian Federation, as Ukraine has already has agreed to a temporary ceasefire for 30 days, and Moscow is setting conditions, which shows that it does not want either peace or real peace negotiations.

"We clearly see who wants peace and who wants war. Russia will try to seize all of Ukraine by other means, and preferably neutralize half of Europe militarily. It will not succeed, but this does not mean that Putin will not try," concluded Sikorsky.

As is known, Trump plans to hold a conversation with Putin on March 18. The American president said that he plans to discuss with the Russian leader the cessation of the war in Ukraine.

We recall that recently Trump's special envoy, Steve Witkoff, was in Russia, where he met with Putin and discussed the US proposal for a 30-day ceasefire.
