Trump accuses Iran of supporting Houthis and threatens severe consequences - 1

US President Donald Trump said that Iran will be held responsible for any attack carried out by Yemen's Houthi rebels, BTA reports.

Trump wrote on the social network “Truth Social“ that any attack by the Houthis would be viewed as an attack by Iran, stressing that the consequences would be “terrible“.

On Saturday, the US carried out massive airstrikes against Houthi positions in Yemen, as part of a response to Houthi attacks on international merchant ships and Israeli targets.

According to US officials, these strikes will continue until the Houthis stop attacking shipping in the region.

The Houthis, who support the Palestinian group “Hamas“ and receive support from Iran, have repeatedly attacked ships off the coast of Yemen since November 2023, severely disrupting global trade.

In response to these attacks, the US, Israel and the UK have carried out airstrikes against targets linked to the Houthis. Although a ceasefire was reached between “Hamas“ and Israel in January, the Houthis have again begun threatening to attack Israeli ships unless Israel lifts the humanitarian blockade on Gaza.

Trump has again accused Iran of supporting the Houthis, saying Tehran is playing the role of “innocent victim“ of terrorists they cannot control. Despite these accusations, Iran continues to deny any involvement in the Houthis' actions and has threatened a serious response to any US aggression.

Meanwhile, the Houthi-affiliated Saba news agency reported new US airstrikes in the area of Yemen's western port of Hodeidah, including on a steel plant in the town of Al-Salif. The strikes are part of a new US military operation in the region, the largest since Trump took office in January.

The strikes are in response to the growing threat the Houthis pose to international trade supplies and Iran's continued support for them.
