The German Air Force will strengthen its capabilities to plan and manage defense operations from a new headquarters in northwestern Germany, DPA reported, BTA reported.
The new command center opened today in the town of Kalkar, near Germany's border with the Netherlands. Lieutenant General Ingo Gerhartz called the rebuilt command post a "decisive moment" for "Germany's national and collective defense".
The headquarters will facilitate multinational operations between NATO allies and the Luftwaffe, Germany's air force.
"Air Defender" "(Air Defender), the largest air force deployment exercise, showed that it takes some time before we can command our partners' aircraft. Now, with the new command center, that changes," Gerhartz said.
The German military said the headquarters was "capable of operationally implementing political decisions for the use of air forces within the framework of national and collective defense at any time without prior preparation, thus ensuring the possibility of an immediate reaction at any time in the event of a crisis."
