The United States is ready to end the war in Ukraine, but the post-war guarantees for its security must be assumed by the Europeans. This was stated in an interview with NBC television, quoted by BNR, Michael Walz, President Trump's national security adviser.
"The Europeans must take responsibility for this conflict. President Trump intends to end it. And then the security guarantees will be assigned to the Europeans," said Mike Walz, adding that next week an American delegation led by Vice President J.D. Vance will visit Europe to discuss ways to end the war in Ukraine.
Ukraine needs security guarantees so that Ukrainians can live in peace and 8 million of their compatriots who have fled to Europe can return to their country without fear of new Russian aggression - this was commented by Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky in an interview with the British television channel ITV.
He recalled to the media that the agreements that froze the war in Donbas in 2014 and 2015 with guarantees from Russia, France and Germany have not worked:
"If we do not receive guarantees for our security, the conflict will be frozen. We have already passed this stage. We have experienced it ourselves. Why should we repeat the negative experience of the Minsk agreements and the Normandy Four meetings?
Freezing the conflict will only stimulate Putin to renew aggression. Who will then go down in history as the winner? Nobody. This will be a defeat for everyone. Trump should not simply end the war. He should make sure that he does not leave Putin the opportunity to fight against us again," said Volodymyr Zelensky.
