Russia expects that relations with Syria will continue to develop on an equal and mutually beneficial basis. This was stated to "Izvestia" by President Putin's special representative for the Middle East and African countries, Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov.
“Syria has always been an important partner of Russia in the Arab world and on the international arena. Relations between our countries are historically friendly and are based on the principles of mutual respect and consideration of each other's interests. I believe that they will continue to develop on an equal and mutually beneficial basis,“ Bogdanov said. He noted that the Arab Republic is going through difficult times, expressing hope that the Syrian people will overcome the difficulties that have arisen due to the protracted crisis in the country. The Deputy Head of the Russian Foreign Ministry stressed that the Russian Federation is ready to continue to provide the republic with all necessary assistance.
“The events that led to the change of leadership in Syria in December 2024 do not change our basic approaches“, the special representative added. According to him, Russia will continue to support the sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity of the republic. Bogdanov stressed that the Syrians themselves must determine the future of the country through a national dialogue, taking into account the legitimate interests of all political forces and ethnic groups.
