Chinese President Xi Jinping has canceled his trip to Brussels for a summit to mark the 50th anniversary of China-EU diplomatic relations. This statement was made by the Financial Times (FT) newspaper.
According to two sources of the publication, instead of the Chinese leader, Beijing will be represented at the summit by Premier of the State Council of the People's Republic of China Li Qiang.
The newspaper notes that the locations for such meetings usually rotate, with the premier usually attending in Brussels while the president holds the corresponding summits in Beijing. However, as sources noted by the FT, the European Union expected Xi Jinping to attend in person in the anniversary year.
