The Gulf of Mexico is now American for "Google Maps" users (Google Maps) in the United States, DPA reported, BTA reported.
The change was made after the government of new US President Donald Trump unilaterally changed the name of the gulf.
For users in Mexico, the gulf will remain Mexican, and for those in third countries, both names will be displayed (American in second place, in parentheses).
The technology giant announced the change a few days ago, which it explained with its "long-standing practice of making changes to names when they have been updated in official government sources".
"For us, it will continue to be the Gulf of Mexico and for the whole world, it will continue to be the Gulf of Mexico", reacted Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum.
