The United Arab Emirates Ambassador to the United States Yousef Otaiba said on Monday that the United States' approach to the situation in Gaza is “difficult“, Reuters reported, quoted by BTA.
“Ultimately, we are all looking for solutions. We just don't know where they will come from yet,“ Otaiba said.
US President Donald Trump announced that the US would take control of the Gaza Strip and develop its economy after the Palestinians are displaced elsewhere – actions that would fundamentally change American policy on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
When asked if the UAE and the US could find common ground on Gaza, the ambassador said his country was ready to work towards it.
Otaiba stressed that the two countries could negotiate and coordinate despite their differences on some issues.
“We are flexible, we express our views openly and we are very clear on this issue. As in all other types of relationships, sometimes our friends listen to us, sometimes we don't. Sometimes we agree on certain issues, sometimes we don't, but we have always tried to find common ground,“ he said.
“Just because we don't like something in particular, it doesn't mean we don't talk,“ the ambassador added.
