It is important that the US remains our closest ally, said EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaia Kallas in an interview with the European Newsroom - a platform for cooperation of European news agencies, including BTA.
The new US administration is starting work, we are building relations at different levels, added Kallas. We want to hear their concerns, to present ours and to assess what we can do together, together we are stronger, she pointed out. In her words, Europe must participate in the negotiations on the future of Ukraine.
Regarding US President Donald Trump's proposal for Gaza, Kallas insisted that local people cannot be forcibly relocated, and that the seizure of their lands would be illegal. Everyone in the region has rejected President Trump's ideas, she noted. According to her, the EU should participate in the negotiations on the future of Gaza and the region should no longer become a haven for terrorists.
Regarding the events in Serbia, the High Representative acknowledged that people have the right to peaceful protest. The important thing is that the protests are not suppressed with violence, insisted Kallas. The future of Serbia will be determined by the Serbian people, she added. It is in our interest that there is no tension in the Western Balkans, the High Representative summarized.
Regarding the elections in Romania, Kallas explained that this is not an exception and that there is a rapid increase in cases of disinformation in the EU. The problem is more with the older generation of people who believe everything they read in the news, but everyone is affected, the High Representative added.
