The Kremlin announced today that there is political will to end the war in Ukraine on both the Russian and U.S. sides, after Presidents Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin spoke on the phone last night, Reuters reported, quoted by BTA.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said it was premature to discuss details related to a face-to-face meeting between the two leaders.
Trump and Putin spoke on the phone for more than an hour, both expressing a desire to end the conflict in Ukraine, which has lasted almost three years.
Peskov said the two sides agreed that an agreement on Ukraine can be reached through negotiations and that now it is necessary to wait until the first concrete results of their conversation are seen.
When asked whether European countries would be represented in the peace talks, he said it was still too early to discuss the exact format of the discussions.
In response to a question about whether China could play a role as a mediator, Peskov urged reporters to be patient. He added that China is a strategic partner of Russia and Moscow highly values relations between the two countries.
