US President Donald Trump announced today that he would introduce reciprocal tariffs on both allies and rivals of the United States, Agence France-Presse reported, BTA reported.
"If they put a tariff or a tax on us, we put exactly the same level of tariff or tax on them, it's that simple", Trump said. He added that when it comes to trade, the United States is often treated worse by its allies than by its enemies.
In the Oval Office, Trump answered various questions, including about the ongoing war in Ukraine. Sky News quoted Trump as saying that he would be happy to see Russia return to the Group of Seven (G-7). The US president told reporters at the White House that it was a mistake to exclude the Russians after the annexation of the Ukrainian peninsula of Crimea in 2014.
Trump said that Ukraine would get a seat at the table in any negotiations with Russia to end the war, Reuters reported. Speaking to reporters at the White House, the US leader reiterated that the military conflict in the Eastern European country must end.
The US president again criticized Canada's defense budget. According to him, Ottawa does not allocate enough funds and is therefore defenseless from a military point of view, Reuters reported. Trump made this statement to reporters while presenting a roadmap for imposing reciprocal counter-tariffs on every country in the world that imposes similar taxes on American goods.
