Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski told the European Parliament's Foreign Affairs Committee in Brussels today that Poland supports strong transatlantic ties and a positive agenda in relations with the United States, BTA reports.
He stressed that the European Union is not an economic rival of the United States and must avoid trade disputes.
„Europe must be armed to confront Russia. We cannot continue to work with Moscow and Minsk in the old way. "We need to discuss how to ensure our own security and be able to counter threats," Sikorski said, calling for enhanced cooperation between the EU and NATO.
He stressed that Russia must bear the economic and political consequences of its aggression against Ukraine, with the frozen assets of the Russian Central Bank being used for the benefit of the Ukrainians.
"It is difficult to achieve peace if Russia has the opportunity to resume war. Putin only understands the language of force," he added.
Sikorski said that Poland would continue to work to increase support for Ukraine and strengthen European security. In the context of EU enlargement, he stressed the importance of supporting the Western Balkan countries and encouraging pro-European forces in Georgia.
