French President Emmanuel Macron joined his American counterpart Donald Trump at the White House today for a telephone conversation with the leaders of the other G-7 countries, Agence France-Presse reported, quoted by BTA.
Macron waved before entering the door leading to the Oval Office to join the conversation with the group of the world's seven largest developed economies, which also includes Canada, Germany, Italy, Japan and Britain.
During his visit to Washington, the French president is expected to talk to his American counterpart about the prospects for ending the war in Ukraine amid their sharp differences over how to proceed, Reuters noted.
Macron is the first European leader to visit the US president since he returned to power a month ago. British Prime Minister Keir Starmer will also visit Washington later this week.
Macron and Starmer are expected to try to persuade Trump not to sign a ceasefire agreement with Russian President Vladimir Putin at any cost, to keep Europe involved and to discuss military guarantees for Ukraine.
