The UK today announced its largest package of sanctions against Russia since the early days of the war in Ukraine. The list includes companies from around the world that supply components used by the Russian military, Reuters reported, quoted by BTA.
The package, announced on the third anniversary of Russia's invasion of Ukraine, also targets North Korea's Defense Minister, General No Gwan-chol, over the deployment of North Korean troops in Russia's Kursk region, as well as the Kyrgyzstan-based bank "Keremet".
The British Foreign Office said it was imposing sanctions on manufacturers and suppliers of machine tools, electronics and dual-use goods, including microprocessors used in weapons systems. They are based in a number of third countries, including Central Asian countries, Turkey, Thailand, India and China.
Among the list of wealthy Russians included in the sanctions is billionaire businessman Roman Trotsenko, who is chairman of the board of directors of the investment corporation "Aeon".
The British government has also imposed sanctions on 40 ships that the UK says are used to help Russia circumvent sanctions by transporting sanctioned Russian oil.
"Every military supply line cut, every rouble frozen and the exposure of every instigator of Putin's aggression is a step towards a just and lasting peace," said British Foreign Secretary David Lammy.
