The National Bank of Kazakhstan (NBK) is not yet considering extending the validity of cards for non-residents for more than 1 year. The topic was discussed at the forum “Cybersecurity in Finance“, said Deputy Chairman of the National Bank of Kazakhstan Berik Sholpankulov, quoted by TASS.
“For now, the NBC is not considering an extension. In general, the approach is to open the card for up to 1 year and periodic, monthly authentications throughout the year, because there are cases when a non-resident opens cards, transfers them to other people and they commit illegal actions. And in order to confirm monthly that we actually have an owner and he uses the card, such a mechanism is being introduced”, noted Sholpankulov.
Earlier, the Kazakhstan Agency for Regulation and Development of the Financial Marketmade changes to the documents regulating the work of financial organizations, which, in particular, prohibit the issuance of a payment card to a non-resident of Kazakhstan with a validity period of more than 1 year.
