Six people died and 78 were injured when the roof of a shopping mall collapsed in the city of Trujillo, in northern Peru, the Associated Press reported, quoted by BTA.
Peru's Defense Minister, Walter Astudillo, said at a press conference that according to information provided by local firefighters in La Libertad, five people died at the scene and the sixth died in hospital after the collapse.
Astudillo also said that 30 injured people have already been discharged, while 48 remain in hospital. Three of them remain in critical condition. The minister expressed his condolences to the families of the victims.
Trujillo Mayor Mario Reina announced the closure of the shopping center "due to an imminent risk" and said his government wanted to check other centers.
