Russia recognizes US efforts for a quick cessation of hostilities in Ukraine, but considers such a move unacceptable, as it would lead to a new escalation of the conflict and grave consequences for Russian-US relations. This was stated by Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov, quoted by Reuters, reports BTA.
“We can recognize with sufficient confidence the desire of the American side to move towards a quick cessation of hostilities“, Ryabkov said in an interview with RIA Novosti.
However, he stressed that such a cessation of hostilities, without a lasting political solution, would lead to a new escalation. “Cessation of hostilities without a long-term settlement is a path to a quick resumption of fighting and new, even more serious consequences, including for Russian-American relations. We do not want this“, the diplomat added.
