The "Islamic Jihad" group accused Israel of wanting to annex the West Bank by military force, reported Agence France-Presse, quoted by BTA.
Yesterday, Israel announced that its troops will remain for several months in three refugee camps in the northern part of the West Bank as part of a military operation that has been going on for more than a month.
Israel has deployed tanks near the city of Jenin, AFP notes.
The army confirmed the deployment of a tank unit.
"Islamic Jihad" condemned the use of tanks by Israeli forces as an additional tool of repression. The group accused Israel of “continuous escalation“ against Palestinians in the West Bank.
The “Islamic Jihad” movement has a strong presence in the West Bank and is an ally of “Hamas” in Gaza.
The group condemned “Israel's plans to annex the West Bank by force” and described the current Israeli military operations as a new act of aggression aimed at "uprooting the Palestinian people from their land".
Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz said yesterday that he had instructed soldiers to prepare for an extended stay next year in the Jenin, Tulkarem and Nur Shams refugee camps.
Israel earlier announced that it had expelled about 40,000 Palestinians from the camps.
A few days ago, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu visited troops in the occupied West Bank, ordering the army to step up its operations.
