There is still no clarity on the form of the mission of the countries of the so-called coalition of the willing in Ukraine, said today the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaia Kalas before the start of the meeting of defense ministers of several European countries at NATO headquarters in Brussels, BTA reports.
“Different options are being discussed – the mission could be for observation, peacekeeping or defense. The question is, if peace is achieved, what troops will be needed“, explained Kalas. She stressed the need to consider all options, not excluding the participation of the United States, which also has an interest in peace and stability in Europe.
“Russia has not agreed to a ceasefire, and Ukraine insists on peace“, she added. Kallas reported that the EU has already trained over 73,000 Ukrainian military personnel and is actively supporting Ukrainian defense production.
British Defense Secretary John Healey opened the ministerial meeting, emphasizing that peace in Ukraine must be lasting, in line with the call of US President Donald Trump. He added that 200 NATO experts had worked together to prepare plans that would be discussed behind closed doors during the meeting.
“We are united in our desire to secure Ukraine's future after peace is achieved. "We will discuss how to be fully prepared with operational plans when a peace agreement is reached," concluded Minister Healy.
