Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that a meeting between Russian and American diplomats will be held in Istanbul on February 27, the Anadolu Agency reported, quoted by BTA.
“Our diplomats will discuss the systematic problems that have accumulated during the previous administration“, Lavrov said during his visit to Qatar today.
The meeting comes as a follow-up to talks held last week in Saudi Arabia, during which the US and Russia agreed to begin work on restoring economic and diplomatic ties and working to end the war in Ukraine, the agency notes. The focus of the talks in Istanbul will be the resumption of the activities of the embassies of both countries and the return to work of employees and diplomats who were expelled in recent years. No further details were given about the holding of the meeting in Istanbul.
Turkey continues to make efforts to end the war in Ukraine, with representatives of the Turkish Foreign Ministry stating that the country is ready to provide any kind of assistance and to host talks and international meetings.
