Seven people were injured, one critically, in a car attack at a bus stop in northern Israel, Reuters reports.
According to Israeli police, the attacker acted with nationalist motives. He is a Palestinian from Jenin, a city located in the northern occupied West Bank, and is married to an Israeli citizen.
"Preliminary information indicates that he deliberately aimed his car at civilians waiting at a bus stop at the Karkur junction," Israeli police said in a statement.
Tensions between Israelis and Palestinians have escalated in recent months, especially in the West Bank. On Sunday, Israel sent tanks into the northern West Bank for the first time in more than 20 years and ordered the army to prepare for an extended stay to combat Palestinian militants in refugee camps in the area.
According to aid groups, more than 40,000 Palestinians have fled their homes in Jenin and nearby Tulkarm since Israel launched its operation in the region last month, shortly after a ceasefire with Hamas in Gaza was reached after 15 months of fighting.
