Romania will not send peacekeeping troops to Ukraine and this will be conveyed by the country's interim president Ilie Bolojan to the European Council, Romanian Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu said, quoted by Agerpres, BTA reported.
He said this yesterday in response to a question from a journalist from the private television operator “Romania TV“.
“No. I do not agree with sending forces. I have already spoken to the interim president and this is the decision that he will also make before the European Council,” the prime minister emphasized on television. “Romania will not provide troops to be deployed in Ukraine. Let peace be achieved first. Romania must stabilize the situation in Romania, we have the longest border with Ukraine, we have the Black Sea, Romania can most easily strengthen the eastern flank of its land, and not with troop movements in the conflict zone“.
He added that he is among the people who want a lasting and quick peace in Ukraine, because “tens of thousands of people are dying every week in this war“.
