Billionaire Elon Musk, who has established himself as a close advisor to US President Donald Trump, called Vice President J.D. Vance “the future president“ in a short statement on his social network X, reports Agence France-Presse.
“The best vice president in history and a future president“, Musk wrote about Vance.
This is not the first time Musk has expressed support for him. On February 19, he called Vance "the best vice president and, hopefully, our future president," AFP reported. Since Donald Trump returned to the White House, Elon Musk has played a key role in the new administration's efforts to cut government spending. Vance goes from critic to loyal Trump ally, once a Trump critic, to one of his most vocal supporters. He was chosen as the Republican Party's vice presidential nominee after becoming a popular television personality.
Vance fully supports the president's positions on immigration and the economy, but is distinguished by more conservative views on other issues, including abortion. He has spoken out against exceptions to the ban, even in cases of rape or incest.
Will Trump run for a third term?
Musk's publication comes amid regular hints by Trump, who already governed the country from 2017 to 2021, that he might run for a third term.
However, the Twenty-second Amendment to the US Constitution, adopted in 1951, categorically states:
„No person shall be elected President more than twice.“
Changes to the constitution require a two-thirds majority in Congress, which Republicans do not have, as well as ratification by 38 American states - a scenario that seems unlikely, even if Trump decides to challenge the restriction.
