The US Armed Forces will deploy an additional 1,140 soldiers to the border with Mexico to support logistics, Reuters reported. The agency notes that this is the latest decision by President Donald Trump's administration to use the military in implementing his migration policy, BTA writes.
The planned deployment of forces, which includes parts of the states of Kentucky, North Carolina and Virginia, will increase the number of soldiers along the border to about 4,200 people.
“The Department of Defense continues to work with the Department of Homeland Security to fill gaps along the southern border“, the military said in a statement.
On Thursday, the Department of Homeland Security said that in February the number of migrants caught illegally crossing the Mexican-US border was at a near record low.
Trump has increasingly turned to the military, including sending additional troops to the border, using military transport planes to return migrants from the US and opening military bases where to accommodate them.
