A German political scientist believes that yesterday's heated verbal dispute between the presidents of the United States - Donald Trump, and Ukraine - Volodymyr Zelensky, in the Oval Office of the White House was a calculated move on Trump's part, DPA reported, quoted by BTA.
"We saw the reality TV star Donald Trump in all his glory: breaking someone down in front of the camera", said Thomas Jaeger from the University of Cologne in an interview with the local television En te Fau.
"This has been his trademark for a long time and he has played everything out in advance", Jaeger pointed out, adding that the president of Ukraine "fell into the trap" that was set for him staked.
Zelensky and Trump never concluded the framework agreement on American access to Ukrainian rare earth elements yesterday after a heated exchange of remarks in the Oval Office, with the meeting being interrupted by the Ukrainian head of state leaving the White House prematurely.
Negotiations on the agreement continued for weeks and the heads of state of both countries were scheduled to sign the document.
"This is not a coincidence, this is not spontaneous. "It was a staged scenario," the expert said of yesterday's meeting, which saw Trump and his Vice President J.D. Vance attack Zelensky in front of live cameras.
The meeting, intended as an opportunity to discuss bilateral cooperation in the security and economic spheres, quickly turned into a shouting match in front of the media in the Oval Office, DPA notes.
Vance accused Zelensky of being ungrateful after years of the US providing aid to Ukraine for its resistance to Russia, and Trump told the Ukrainian president to either make a deal with Moscow or forget about American support, DPA recalls.
